Today we went to Sue Lane http://www.suelanejewellery.co.uk/ to make our wedding rings. We had a couple of days in Hereford in the trailer tent first which were a really lovely and peaceful. So here is us making our rings:
First of all the metal looks like this, just two pieces cut from a longer strip. They are both Palladium and Pauls is 6mm and mine is 2mm.
First thing we had to do was bend them into a kind of circle which was close to the size we need.
Then we cut them to make sure the ends lined up.
Then we move them so that the two ends match up exactly.
After that a little solder is added to join the two ends together and we use the blow torch to melt it.
After that the ring looks a little mucky and so we wash it in a "pickle" and burn off the black.
Now we had to star making it circular, so we bang it with a hammer, and then put it in this press to make sure it's flat and double check the size and change a little if needed.
So here we have two circular flat rings.
Now we just file, and sand and polish.
And here's the finished article. We had a fab day, had a really nice food with some lovely home made cakes and Sue was lovely.
